SHOWCASE NATIVE MANGROVE INTO DIVERSE MIXED-USE PROGRAMMING
PORTICO MIXED-USE WATERFRONT SEKUPANG
The 20 ha. site is located primarily on an existing mangrove in Sekupang, Batam Island, looking directly onto the skyline of Singapore. Minizimazing impact and preserving precious area of native mangrove turned into opportunity for a new concept of urban mangrove experience. Portico Sekupang development became a model for waterfront improvement program for this island, folding in environment, social, and economic interests into one integrated framework of thinking and development actions.
Place Infrastructure and Buildings Within The Improved And Preserved Mangrove To Build Integrated Experience
Site identification for potential development area offered opportunities to build layering system of indoor and outdoor experiences unlike we would expect in waterfront resort. Guidelines for sustainable design and construction were incorporated into the early thinking to assure a build-up of positive impact to both environmental and economic interests. This "profit with purpose" approach brought together disparate stakeholders into one unified goal, applying among others innovative marine technology in buildings and infrastructures.
