tourism is the lever for a larger multi-sector benefit sharing

banggai touna integrated marine & coastal zone strategic plan

Banggai Touna Region is a development hub of East Sulawesi Province, facing seas with great potential such as Gulf of Tomini, Molucca Sea, and Gulf of Tolo. Beside acts as regional growth center, the region is also works as the main gate for trade route, logistic distribution, and people mobility in East Sulawesi. This region consists of four regencies: Banggai, Banggai Islands, Banggai Sea, and Tojo Una-Una, in a unified vision to improve the quality and sustainability of economic condition, social welfare, and cultural excellence through three main pillars: Fishery, Plantation, and Maritime Tourism.

Banggai Touna can become a coastal zone model region for a blue-green island that is sustainable, resilient, inclusive and competitive. Integrated coastal zone management is key to manage development and conserve natural resource, and while so doing, integrates the concerns of relevant economic sectors and societal interests mainly on an interdependent and self-sustaining partnership between fisheries, agriculture, and coastal tourism. With the commitment to integrated management vision, series of thoughtful and transformative tourism investment will become the lever for a larger multi-sector benefit sharing.

The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Criteria were created to provide a common understanding throughout the world of “sustainable tourism”, and are the minimum that any tourism business should aspire to reach. They are organized around four main themes: effective sustainability planning, maximizing social and economic benefits for the local community, enhancing cultural heritage, and reducing negative impacts to the environment.
